Here is Reverend Penny Lowes (on the far right nest to me) our Pastor at the Congregational Church of Birmingham. Her Husband Dean is on the other side of me. I think she is going down with the Youth Group in April.

This is a Picture of Katie and I protesting the War in Iraq during Synod. The UCC called for an end to the war in Iraq during Synod. My Shirt is a picture of Cesar Chavez because UCC Delegates in 1973 marched with him for Migrant Worker rights.

We are here with the United Church of Christ's Michigan Conferance Southeast Area, which incompasses the Detroit Metropolitan Association and the Eastern area of Michigan. We will be talking about the partnership we have created with you later this afternoon.
Let me introduce myself to you all:
My name is Melissa Crook and I was brought up in the United Church of Christ. I am a college student here in Michigan, and I will be graduating in May 2008. After I am done with my Bachelors Degree, I will be going to Seminary where I will study to become a minister. A Seminary is a special graduate level college for study in religious leadership. The type of degree I will get is called the Masters of Divinity, which leads to Ordaination. If you have any questions about what that is, ask and I will tell you.
I am looking forward to coming down to Matzatlan in June. I know very little Spanish, as you may know very little English. I am going to try to brush up on my spanish before we come to visit with you.

This is my first time blogging and I think its going to be fun!. I found an on line translator freetranslation.com that we can use to help in our communication. I can read a little Spanish and am looking forward to improving that! Over the next months I will be working on putting together a document that tells the Companions in faith story. We have just a little on paper here in Michigan. I know that some of you in Mazatlan have been to Michigan and I hope you will share your stories on this blog. This Saturday October 27 we will be introducing the blog at a meeting for Detroit area churches. We will be on from 12:30pm-1:00pm Eastern Daylight Savings Time. Jhola! Congratulations on setting up Companions in Faith = Companeros en Fe blog. Hopefully this will facilitate communications between youth in the United Church of Christ in Michigan and youth in Iglesia Cristiana Congregacional Mexico. We will be trying out this blog during the Joint Fall Association Meeting United Church of Christ in Oxford, Michigan, on Saturday, October 27th, 2007, at 12:30pm Eastern Daylight Time (? 2 hours earlier in Mazatlan, Mexico), and hope to start an hour-long dialog that may then continue on an informal basis leading up to a visit by Michigan youth to Mazatlan the week after Easter (March 23, 2008). Sr. Miguel Villa and Rev. Domingo Guerrero will be our guests from Mexico at the October meeting. We hope that Christians in Mexico and Michigan can become closer and fulfill Christ's hope for the church "that they may all be one - para que todos sean uno." Adios!
